House of Refuge Sunnyslope Inc. is a faith based nonprofit, serving the homeless in the greater Phoenix area since 1988. We provide transitional housing through three different programs. House of Refuge is for workingmen, House of Hope is for single mothers and their children, and House of Promise serves working women. Building God’s Kingdom is our primary objective. We provide a safe and sober transitional living environment where individuals are restored through God’s presence in their life, full time work, and fellowship with others.
We are a qualified 501c3 nonprofit and are governed by an elected Board of Directors. The staff is relatively small so volunteers are a valuable and necessary component for the overall operation and success of HRS.
We are here to encourage, equip, and help transform our residents into the healthy, productive, men and women God intended them to be.
Residents come to us through church and agency referrals, prison, chronic unemployment, addiction, and directly off the street. Individuals may also walk in with no referral.
We do not take individuals that have convictions or plea-bargain for violent crimes, sex crimes, or arson.
Everyone must pass a drug test at entrance and submit to random drug tests.
Residents can stay up to two years. They are required to work, pay program fees, attend mandatory classes, and community meals. Residents are transformed through participation in Bible Studies, Life Skills Classes, Case Management and Mentorship/Fellowship programs.
